When you’re looking to buy your next MSI gaming laptop, there are several things to consider before making your purchase. One of the most important things to look at when you’re buying a gaming laptop, or any laptop for that matter, is the hardware configuration and performance. In this article, we look at MSI’s lineup of gaming laptops and help you find the best MSI gaming laptop to fit your needs.
What factors should you consider when buying an MSI Gaming Laptop?
A lot of gamers complain about not being able to afford a decent gaming laptop, or that they don’t want to spend so much money on an MSI Gaming Laptop when they already have one at home. But what factors should you consider when buying a gaming laptop? There are several key things that you need to keep in mind and look out for before purchasing a new gaming laptop. Here are some of those factors:
Why do you need a MSI Gaming Laptop?
If you are someone who is highly invested in gaming, or even just looking for a good laptop to do some casual gaming on, it can be very difficult to find something that has all of your needs. There are a few things that you should consider when purchasing a MSI Gaming Laptop. When deciding which one will work best for you, there are four aspects to look at Price, graphics card, storage capacity, and portability. These four points will give you a clear understanding of what your ideal laptop is going to be.
How much should you pay for a good MSI Gaming Laptop?
Well, it depends on what you’re looking for in a MSI gaming laptop and how much you have to spend. We’ve shopped around and found some of the best deals for you, so here are our top picks for where to buy a gaming laptop. If your budget is $1,000 or less we’ve got recommendations for you. $1,000-$2,500 we have higher-end options at every price point.
What to look for in an MSI gaming laptop
If you’re looking for MSI gaming laptop, there are several factors to consider. First and foremost, consider that laptops tend to be larger and heavier than their desktop counterparts—and you’ll need ample space for it on your desk. Next, think about how long you’ll want to keep it—these machines don’t last forever. Finally, take a look at its performance. Does it have enough RAM? Powerful enough of a processor? What ports does it offer?

1) Best Overall: Stealth 15M MSI Gaming Laptop
The Stealth 15M from MSI is a gaming laptop aimed at more advanced users who are looking to get more bang for their buck when it comes to computer specs and performance. At just $1189, the Stealth 15M packs in more RAM, storage, and processing power than most computers I’ve seen, with only minor drawbacks like battery life and portability. If you’re looking to take your game to the next level without spending hundreds of dollars on brand-new hardware, take a look at the MSI Stealth 15M!
Build Quality & Design
Looking to impress with gaming power, but don’t have a ton of cash? Enter MSI’s Stealth gaming laptop. I mean, they don’t call it stealthy for anything. The Stealth packs in top-of-the-line features while keeping a reasonable price tag of $2,500! Powered by Intel Core i7 CPU and GTX 1080 GPU with 6GB VRAM memory, it has all you need to play your favorite games.
Display & Audio of Stealth 15M MSI Gaming Laptop
The Stealth is an impressive package. The display is a full 1080p panel, which isn’t as great as what I’d like to see at a $1,000 price point but still very good. Colors are vivid and viewing angles are solid. Brightness can get fairly high, so it’s visible even in direct sunlight. Thanks to its thin bezels and flat screen, MSI was able to install two 10W speakers above the keyboard that deliver rich sound.
As with all of our system reviews, we put each laptop through a barrage of benchmark tests to determine their performance levels. Since it is a gaming laptop and not a workstation, we focused more on graphics performance than CPU performance. We used Futuremark’s 3DMark Firestrike test to measure GPU performance and GamesaveHQ’s Tomb Raider test to stress its CPU.
The Stealth 15M MSI gaming laptop by MSI boasts some impressive specs for a machine of its price range. The GTX 1060 is a great video card for gamers on a budget, but it’s not all about what’s inside. The 4K display will look gorgeous as you take out your opponents on new maps and modes in Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. To find out if the latest stealth-fighter aircraft has what it takes to make gamers salivate, read on!
2) Best Runner Up: 144Hz GL66 MSI Gaming Laptop
The MSI GL62M 7REX-1896US 15.6 1080p Gaming Laptop (7th Generation Intel Core i7, 16GB DDR4, 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB, Windows 10 Home) in review has an attractive chassis and plenty of gaming-oriented features such as a 5ms response time panel, 144Hz refresh rate, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card with 4GB of VRAM. The 1080p display looks good with vivid colors but lacks crisp details due to the low pixel density. The laptop itself is bulky and heavy for its screen size.
A gamer’s dream monitor is fast, has good viewing angles, and is fluid when it comes to image display. There are lots of monitors with all these features in today’s market. One such monitor that stands out in terms of performance and price is a new MSI gaming laptop called 144Hz GL66. It’s able to deliver top-notch performance at an affordable price tag that won’t leave a huge dent in your pocketbook. How does it stack up against its competitors?
Display of 144Hz GL66 MSI Gaming Laptop
The MSI GL62 (or GT72 as it’s known in some regions) is equipped with a 15.6-inch display featuring a Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. It uses an AUO B156HAN01.2 panel, which offers good color quality and viewing angles but only manages to reach a passable 80% of sRGB coverage, falling short of 100% sRGB.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The keyboard is solid with plenty of key travel and a nice amount of resistance. There’s no backlighting that can make night gaming problematic, but you can always hook up an external light if that’s a necessity for you. The touchpad is smaller than I would like but it works well enough and supports gestures like two-finger scrolling.
The biggest change from last year’s model is a huge improvement in performance. Using an Intel Core i7 7700HQ CPU and 16GB of RAM, my experience playing Battlefield 1 with graphics maxed was fantastic. No screen tearing, no lag, no slowdowns—just beautiful gaming. For gamers looking for an even better experience (faster response times and refresh rates), be sure to check out models that have a display with an Nvidia G-Sync or AMD FreeSync technology.
3) Best MSI Machine: Newest MSI GF63 Premium Gaming Laptop
The MSI GF63 15.6-inch laptop features the newest 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor, Windows 10 home edition, 16GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD hybrid storage, and more. Read this article to know its detailed review!
Screen & Sound Quality
The screen and sound quality on a gaming laptop are typically top-notch. You get crisp, clear images and booming, immersive sound—all coming from powerful speakers usually found underneath or in front of your keyboard. Of course, if you’re playing games that involve lots of explosions, set pieces, and other special effects, you may want to turn off some of those sounds. But most modern MSI gaming laptops will play back any content with studio-level fidelity when cranked up to high volume.
Battery Life & Heat Management
Batteries don’t last forever; though we wish they did. Some models do offer improved battery life and heat management, which is a plus for those who game for hours on end or who use their laptop in warm environments. When looking at other laptop features, consider how long its battery will last if you watch videos and play games often. Some games may drain your battery quicker than others, resulting in you not being able to save your work or play on time.
Software & Warranty Info (Conclusion)
The MSI GV62 gaming laptop is powered by an 8th generation Intel Core i5-8300H processor. The graphics are managed by a 6GB GeForce GTX 1060 GPU. A 15.6-inch 1080p display makes up most of it with bezels, which should be a great size for watching movies on. The included full HD IPS display is compatible with VESA mount adapters and has support for refresh rates between 48 and 120Hz.
4) Best 144Hz Laptop: GE75 Raider 144Hz MSI Gaming Laptop
When you’re gaming on the go, it’s important to make sure that you can get all the power you need in one convenient package, especially when your laptop needs to be portable at the same time. With the MSI GE75 Raider, we found something which fits the bill perfectly. This MSI gaming laptop features components that are among the best we’ve ever seen in this class of machine, including a 144Hz display, an Intel Core i7-8750H processor, and a GTX 1070 graphics card.
High-End Performance at a Mid-Range Price – GE75 Raider. High-end performance but at a mid range price, that’s what is promised by MSI and brought to us by GE75. With a GTX 1060 GPU, Core i7 7700HQ CPU, 16GB of RAM, and other high-end specs it is indeed going to be an interesting review. Let’s have a look if it delivers…
Just as there are many different types of individuals, there are various body types for laptops too. If you tend to be on-the-go or prefer a smaller laptop, then a standard laptop design might suit your needs. Another option is a convertible MSI gaming laptop, which allows you to turn from a standard laptop into a tablet when needed. Of course, if you’re in need of something powerful, then you might consider investing in a desktop replacement gaming laptop.
Specifications of GE75 Raider MSI Gaming Laptop
The GE75 has a large 15.6-inch, 1920 x 1080 display and is powered by Intel’s 8th generation i7-8750H processor. This CPU comes with six cores and can reach speeds of up to 4.1GHz and also features 9MB of cache.
This is one of those laptops you want to carry with you if you’re gaming on-the-go. The GE75 comes equipped with two M.2 storage drives, 15.6 inch screen and Intel® CoreTM i7 processor (9450H) with a speed of 2.4GHz; it has 16GB DDR4 memory for superior handling power and 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD for storage.
So, are you ready to step up your game? Do you want a high-performance MSI gaming laptop but can’t afford one of those $4000 models? If so, then don’t miss out on getting yourself a GE75 Raider. Not only does it have an impressive set of specifications and features, but it’s also lightweight and compact enough for you to carry around easily, or even fit into a backpack for use at LAN parties.
5) Best Value for Money: Flagship GF75 Thin MSI Gaming Laptop
MSI has been around in the PC market long enough to know what they’re doing, which is why I was surprised when they announced that their flagship model was going to be only .2 thick, making it one of the thinnest laptops on the market. The MSI GF75 Thin isn’t all about being thin though; the specs are top-notch and it comes with some powerful features that will appeal to gamers looking for a portable machine that can keep up with its desktop counterparts.
MSI has gone to great lengths to provide a gaming laptop that is thin, light and powerful. In doing so, it has released one of the thinnest gaming laptops in recent memory: MSI’s new Flagship GF75 Thin.
For a gaming laptop, nothing beats having a solid keyboard. The GF75’s keyboard is far from excellent but it gets all of its job done right. The keys has well space, with enough travel to satisfy any typist. It also has RGB backlighting so you can personalize it and make it look cool while you type.
The Weight and Size of GF75 Thin MSI Gaming Laptop
MSI has launched a new thin gaming laptop called GF75, which is 1.17 inches thick, 4.72 pounds in weight and comes with a 15.6-inch display. It uses an Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, 8GB DDR4 memory and offers one USB 3.1 Type-C port and three USB 3.0 ports for connectivity, one HDMI 2.0 port for connecting to external monitors and one audio jack for headphones or speakers…[more]
Performance on Games
MSI’s flagship MSI gaming laptop is called Thin because of its thin chassis and lightweight design, but it still packs a powerful punch with up to an i7-8750H processor, 16GB of RAM, and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q graphics. The battery lasts up to 7 hours and 45 minutes on a single charge while playing games.
MSI has been in gaming laptops for quite some time. In recent years, MSI has built a solid reputation for themselves as a major contender in high-end laptops and components. Now, MSI brings us their flagship laptop: The GF75 Thin. Powered by Intel’s latest hardware and NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1050Ti graphics card, does it live up to its name? We took one for a spin to find out.
6) Best with GS76: MSI GS76 Stealth Gaming Laptop
The MSI GS76 Stealth Gaming Laptop has the power and portability to handle today’s demanding video games, while remaining sleek and light enough to comfortably take on-the-go. In this MSI GS76 Stealth Gaming Laptop review, we take an in-depth look at the features and specs of this gaming powerhouse to determine if it’s the right gaming laptop for you. Is it worth $2,099? Read on to find out!
Weighing In on the MSI GS76
At just 4.84 pounds, and less than 0.8 inches thick, it’s hard to believe that there is an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a 1TB hard drive and a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card inside of MSI’s new gaming laptop: The GS73VR 7RF Stealth Pro 17. It truly is one of lightest laptops I have seen packing some serious power!
Outstanding Display for an Excellent Visual Experience
The 15.6 wide-view display delivers outstanding color performance with a 100% sRGB gamut and an ultra-wide color gamut of 72% NTSC. Combined with IPS technology, you can view images and videos with great contrast, brightness, and color accuracy. This screen also covers 178° of vertical viewing angles – so everyone gets to see clearly what you see on your screen.
Good Battery Life and Fast Charging Options
One of the benefits of choosing MSI gaming laptop is that many come with powerful processors and graphics cards designed to run games on high to ultra settings. That’s a huge plus for those looking for a gaming laptop that can keep up with their play style or offer a number of additional features. But whether you’re coming up against aliens in XCOM 2 or zombies in DayZ, having plenty of battery life is always important.
Solid Specs and Performance
This MSI gaming laptop packs some pretty solid specs for under $1,000. Its 7th-generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor delivers more than enough power to handle video editing and rendering without a hitch. It also comes equipped with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a 256GB solid state drive, a 1TB hard drive and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card.
Pricey, But Worth It
Although it costs a pretty penny, you can’t go wrong with MSI’s GS76 Stealth Gaming laptop. Not only is it packed with an Intel Core i7-8750H and 16GB of RAM but, at 5.29 pounds, it’s also super lightweight for MSI gaming laptop.
7) Best with 32GB, 2TB Storage: GE66 Raider MSI Gaming Laptop
The GE66 Raider MSI Gaming Laptop is one of the newer gaming laptops on the market today, and after extensive research and testing, I’ve determined that it has features not found in many other laptops, and that it has more than enough power to keep up with the most demanding games on the market today. In this article, I’ll take you through everything you need to know about this laptop and whether or not it’s worth your hard-earned money.
The MSI GE66 Raider laptop comes with a dedicated Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) that enables gamers to play their favorite games. Users appreciate that it’s also fast, thanks to its 6th generation Intel Core i7 processor. The lightweight aluminum chassis is appreciate by users who want portability but don’t want to sacrifice performance. Gamers also like that they can easily upgrade some of the components in case they need more storage space or memory for playing newer games in high resolution settings.
Many high-end MSI gaming laptops have an issue with heat, as do most powerful consumer laptops. But there’s something especially frustrating about buying a laptop that promises to be a great gaming machine and then having it overheat and throttle performance to try and keep things cool. The GE66 is one such laptop: Its frame is large enough to allow for proper cooling, but due to poor design and thermal management, it still runs very hot under load.
The Overall Verdict
The GE66 Raider, while a bit on the heavy side and lacking any serious bells and whistles, offers an excellent gaming experience at a fair price. It also runs at lower temperatures than its contemporaries while providing decent battery life—though that is to be expected from something running an i7. The GTX 1060 really shines here in comparison to other laptops we’ve tested recently, offering more gaming power per dollar than anything else out there.
Should you buy GE66 Raider MSI Gaming Laptop?
The price for high-end MSI gaming laptops usually falls between $2,000 and $3,000. If you’re willing to pay that much, there are a handful of impressive machines on which you can play your favorite games: either at home or on-the-go. The MSI GE66 Raider is one such machine. However, it’s worth noting that even at less than half of its retail price ($1700), it might still be too pricey for some gamers on a budget.
8) Best 144Hz Laptop: Newest MSI Crosshair Gaming Laptop
MSI has launched its newest gaming laptop in the Crosshair series, and it’s one of their most stunning yet. With the GTX 1060 graphics card, VR-ready hardware, and 144Hz refresh rate screen, this laptop is guaranteed to deliver nothing but smooth performance at any task you throw at it – including gaming. But how does it compare to MSI’s previous models? Find out in this MSI Crosshair Gaming Laptop Review!
Specs & Pricing
MSI’s newest laptop comes with a 3.2 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM. The battery life is good for up to 8 hours of light use. For storage, it comes with a 256GB solid-state drive as well as a 1TB hard drive.
Design & Build Quality
Unlike most MSI gaming laptops, MSI has packed in a crisp 17.3-inch 1080p panel here (even if it’s a bit dull). The keyboard is responsive and comfortable, while its touchpad is roomy and precise. This machine looks sharp with its understated matte black lid and sleek lines. It’s not as flashy as some of MSI’s other offerings, but for $1,300 there aren’t many competitors that look better.
Keyboard, Trackpad, and Screen
The quality of each component is reflected in how well it works together. If a laptop keyboard isn’t made to complement a trackpad, for example, then your typing experience will suffer. Similarly, if your laptop’s screen and graphics card don’t sync up well, images may stutter or freeze as you move through games. No one wants that kind of lag in their gaming!
Performance and Benchmarks
This laptop is equipped with an Intel Core i7-4720HQ processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M Graphics Card, 16GB DDR3L Memory, 256GB SSD storage, and a 15.6-inch FHD display. MSI has put together a solid gaming machine in terms of specs for an affordable price. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M is considered one of the best graphics cards for laptops in today’s market for its performance/price ratio.
We tested a version of MSI’s laptop that featured an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card and Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU. With six cores and 12 threads, that processor should be able to handle most modern PC games at full HD resolution. However, we found ourselves limited by how quickly our test unit’s battery depleted—even with settings turned down to low or medium, we weren’t able to squeeze more than three hours out of it.
9) Best 512GB SSD: MSI Summit E16 Gaming Laptop
MSI has provided me with the opportunity to try out their new E16 MSI gaming laptop, which I will be reviewing in this post along with its strengths and weaknesses. First and foremost, it should be noted that the E16 does not have the best battery life when compared to other laptops in its class, but this only matters if you don’t plan on being close to an outlet or using a charging cable frequently throughout the day.
Software and Drivers
A gaming laptop has to be able to handle most AAA titles. PC games require a lot of processing power and graphics, so it’s essential that you get a machine that can handle these. MSI provides all required software and drivers in order for you to play games on your laptop right out of the box. Plus, they have optimized their driver software with GeForce ExperienceTM, making gameplay smooth and responsive. NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 4GB GDDR5 will meet your graphical needs while still delivering performance.
Audio & Video Playback
The E16 MSI gaming laptop offers solid audio and video playback via a 720p webcam, quad-speaker sound system, and HDMI v1.4 port. However, for those looking to take advantage of MSI’s Audio Boost 2 tech, you’ll need to connect a pair of headphones or earbuds as there are no built-in speakers here.
Benchmarks, Game Tests, and 3DMark
Before getting into actual game performance, we’ll do some benchmarks. For all these tests, we ran them at a native screen resolution of 1920×1080, with all settings set to maximum except for those noted otherwise. We tested in both DirectX 9 and DirectX 11. All games were run from a hard drive. Results are listed on a frame-per-second basis for ease of comparison between different systems.
Temperature, Noise, and Power Tests
While playing XCOM 2, which is a graphically demanding game, we never experienced any issues with heat. The chassis remained cool throughout our gaming session. The laptop’s fans were spinning at a slower speed than its competitors; however, it made up for it with fewer spikes in noise throughout gameplay. We were also impressed by how little of an impact MSI’s software had on overall performance.
10) Best 15.6 inch Laptop: Katana GF66 MSI Gaming Laptop
If you’re in the market for a new MSI gaming laptop, you’ve probably heard of the MSI Katana, but are hesitant to pull the trigger because it seems too good to be true. It’s not! This gaming laptop will blow your mind with its powerful specs and sleek design. Read this review from start to finish to learn everything you need to know about the Katana gaming laptop, including hardware specifications, safety concerns, and personal experiences from people who have used the machine.
This is one of our favorite things about MSI’s new Katana gaming laptop. It offers a ton of value for only $799 and includes a 15.6-inch full HD display with great color and brightness, as well as a lot of gaming power at its affordable price point. Some other laptops in MSI’s line offer similar features but at much higher price points, which we don’t think are necessarily worth it.
Product Details of Katana GF66 MSI Gaming Laptop
The MSI gaming laptop is designed for maximum performance with its 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor and 16 GB DDR4 RAM. The device weighs around 4 pounds, which is a major reason why it’s highly portable. The 15.6-inch display gives you a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080p that results in crisp and vibrant graphics quality, while also providing smooth images without any lag.
Specifications & Pros and Cons
The MSI GF66 is a slim, lightweight gaming laptop that’s packed with high-end components. With its combination of Intel’s i7 processor and Nvidia’s GTX 1060 graphics card, it can run everything from popular games to advanced video editing software at ultra-high settings. Here are some more details
Support and Warranty Information
Be sure to contact MSI’s customer support and return policy in case you have any questions or concerns with your new gaming laptop. It’s also important to keep in mind that most MSI gaming laptops are covered by a limited warranty, typically one year, but sometimes two years. A one-year warranty is fine for a budget MSI gaming laptop, but it’s good practice to get at least two years of coverage for a mid-range model.
MSI Gaming Laptop FAQs
There are a lot of questions one needs to answer before going out and buying a new gaming laptop. Do you prefer Razer or Alienware? Which CPU is best for your budget? How about storage options? And, perhaps most importantly, do you want a 17-inch monster machine or something more portable that still delivers high-end performance? There’s no right answer — it all depends on what you’re looking for. All you need is some research and patience.
The term gaming laptop is pretty broad, but if you do your research, then you’ll easily find out what makes a good gaming machine. We’re going to look at three main factors that make a PC capable of running games: graphics card, RAM and CPU.
When buying a new laptop, many consumers choose between an HP and an MSI. The question is: Is one truly better than another? Or are they just different? A major difference between these two companies is that HP makes both PCs and laptops, while MSI focuses on laptops only. So who will win your dollars? It all depends on what you’re looking for in a gaming laptop… etc.
